Innovamare Academy 2.0, held from October 14th to 19th, 2024, at the Polytechnic of Šibenik have exceed all of our expectations. Organized by Digital Innovation HUB Innovamare and project MareSkill, the six-day educational program brought together experts, researchers, and students from across the blue economy sectors, all driven by a shared mission: to accelerate the digital and green transformation of marine industries.

The Academy provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the challenges facing traditional blue economy sectors, such as tourism, aquaculture, shipbuilding, and maritime transport. Through a combination of theoretical lectures and hands-on practical workshops, attendees explored the application of robotics, sensors, and AI in marine environments, addressing environmental impacts and advancing sustainable solutions.

Notable lecturers from universities of Zadar, Split, Rijeka, Aegean, Polytechnic of Šibenik,  companies SeaCras, Bedalov d.o.o, Cromaris, Valamar Riviera d.d., Hauska & Partner, NGOs WWF Adria, DIH Innovamare and research institutions Italian National Research Council, Ruđer Bošković Institute, public authority Zadar Port Authority shared their knowledge and experience. Topics ranged from satellite monitoring and water quality to sustainable practices in aquaculture, tourism, and shipbuilding. Participants also engaged in fieldwork, including drone inspections and data analysis, to create actionable solutions for the detected challenges within the marine ecosystem.

In addition to gaining cutting-edge knowledge, Innovamare Academy 2.0 offered students an excellent opportunity to network with industry professionals and like-minded peers, fostering connections that will undoubtedly support their future careers in the blue economy.

We were inspired by the enthusiasm and creativity of the participants, who successfully discussed potential sustainability models to address the negative impacts of blue economy sectors on marine ecosystems.
