Successful study visit in Zadar and Šibenik

The DIH InnovaMare and MareSkill projects, co-financed by the Interreg Italy–Croatia 2021–2027 Programme, successfully organised a two-day study visit on 4–5 December 2025 in Zadar and Šibenik, Croatia.

The event gathered partners from Croatia and Italy, along with representatives from businesses, research institutions, educational organisations, and public stakeholders. The programme focused on strengthening cross-border cooperation, promoting innovation in the blue economy, and supporting knowledge and skills development.

Day 1 – Zadar: Energy and Port Innovation

The visit began with participation in the Interreg Italy–Croatia Leap To Blue event, including a panel on blue economy innovations moderated by Mateo Ivanac, Project Manager of DIH InnovaMare. This session enabled valuable networking and exchange of perspectives.

Participants then visited companies Zadar Energy, Zadar Port Authority, and Zadar Cruise Port, where they learned about local approaches to energy solutions, port operations, and sustainable cruise tourism. These visits provided a clearer understanding of current innovations in the energy and port sectors and encouraged cross-sector dialogue.

Day 2 – Šibenik & Stankovci: Research and Pilot Actions

The second day highlighted research, technology, and practical applications. At Marinetek in Stankovci, participants explored modern floating structures and maritime infrastructure solutions. The visit to the Ruđer Bošković Institute – Center for Marine Research showcased the DIH InnovaMare pilot action, demonstrating how underwater cameras are used to track and identify fish species.

These activities reinforced collaboration between research and industry and illustrated how technological advances support sustainable marine development.

The Study Visit strengthened partnerships between Croatian and Italian stakeholders, enhanced understanding of innovations in energy, port management, and maritime infrastructure, and showcased practical pilot actions in marine technologies. Participants identified several opportunities for future cooperation and joint initiatives in the blue economy.

The Study Visit was organised by the Croatian Chamber of Economy, lead partner of DIH InnovaMare, together with the Šibenik University of Applied Sciences, lead partner of MareSkill, and project partners from Croatia and Italy.
